I visited Terripin Farms last week and they are on the way to a great season. They have lots of tomato plants in the ground, with buds on them. It won't be long (late June?) until we have fresh, local tomatoes. In the meantime, get ready for the greens. Brad and Jessica are planting more head lettuce as well as arugula, swiss chard, mustard greens and collard greens. The garlic I planted there last fall is looking good and we may get scapes in June, then bulbs in July. The rain has been heavy the last few days, so we are hoping for some dry weather soon.
At Feiner Gardens, we have been working on putting in raised beds for the perennial herbs (chives, marjoram, greek oregano, french tarragon, dalmation sage). I took delivery of the new greenhouse on Tuesday. Today the plan is to mark the ground posts, so we can put them in next week. The plan is to start putting up the greenhouse on June 6th, weather-permitting, or course. It is so cool!! Once I get it up and running, I hope I can show it to you all.
The Hochstetlers talked about going to the Quincy Farmer's Market downtown, I haven't been there to see them yet. We are going to do a Farm Tour at their house on Saturday, June 25th. It is about an hour drive there and we can spend a couple hours touring their farm. Let me know if you are interested: kate@greatrivercsa.org.
Take good care, Farmer Kate.
